Fuck the Olympics - Look at Mars!

The largest, heavist, and most ambitious Mars rover will attempt a very dangerous landing on Mars in just a few hours.
Curiosity will study Mars's Gale Crater for the habitability of human missions to the planet, and also for past or even existing Martian life, should it exist.

While millions of people scream at their TVs for their country to win in the Olympics, billions should be pouring their curiosity and channelling good energy into the Curiosity Rover for the entire world's benefit. Bronze, silver, and gold are nice, but red is better. ;)

Hank Green, of the Green Brothers (the ones who do the Vlogbrothers videos on Youtube, as well as the CrashCourse videos and several other hilarious projects that you should subscribe to) will be live-tweeting the rover's descent and all of the things that will be going on via his SciShow twitter, in case you're interested in following the events - I plan on doing so. :)

Just found this out - if you want to watch a LIVE computer simulation of the landing (meaning that it's a real-time simulation of what the rover will be doing as it lands and where it is in relation to the planets, etc.) you can go here:

http://eyes.nasa.gov

It'll download a tiny java applet on your computer to be able to watch it. Best results are full screened - you can move the sky around and look all around as you watch the rover zooming towards the planet at over 9,000 miles an hour! (pardon the meme, lol.)

P.S. - at the time of this post, they've turned off the transmitter to the rover, and it's flying on autonomous commands now. Nasa will have no direct involvement in it's movement whatsoever until it is on the ground. :O

I know they cut off command while it does the whole landing process. They named the phase where it actually does the final sequence the 7 minutes of hell. lol

"Heartbeat" radio signals coming in strong - lander is alive and well.
Less than 3 minutes to atmospheric entry.

Cool the only thing we need now is a moon and mars base. Then a giant alien spaceship will crash land on Macross Island. The Zentraedi will come looking for it. LET THE FIRST ROBOTECH WAR BEGIN!!! (P.S. This means I will be able to have a Cyclone [transformable motorcycle] in my lifetime).  ;D

Yeah it was great to watch. Hopefully this one gets some sick pictures and finds some liquid water. You know, maybe some Martian life too.
