General Discussion / VillageCraft IRC: cross-server and forum chat
« on: 29 October 2013, 07:56:09 PM »
VillageCraft Internet Relay Chat

VillageCraft now has Internet Relay Chat (IRC) that relays chat from VillageCraft, VillageCraft Vanilla, the new Chat feature here on the Forum, as well as on the main IRC server at www.esper.net on our #villagecraft channel.

This means that you can communicate to and from any of these places.

-> To use it in VillageCraft or VillageCraft Vanilla, just type. IRC messages from outside the server are clearly denoted.
For example, if you are on VC it will look like this when I chat from VCVanilla:
[IRC] VCVanilla: Akomine: cheese and crackers.

-> To use it here on the Forums, click the "Chat" button near the top left of the page and click "Connect".

-> To use it directly from the Esper IRC server, go to www.esper.net and connect to #villagecraft

TL;DR - You can easily chat with people on either server at the same time.
Enjoy.

PS: there is currently no way to toggle viewing IRC messages, though I may look into it.

General Discussion / Trying to solve server lag - Chunk Loaders
« on: 19 October 2013, 03:15:52 PM »
We have an unusually large amount of chunks open when they should not be.
Luis, searching for reasons why, informed me there could be chunk loaders on VillageCraft.

They essentially force chunks to stay open by pushing things through Nether portals.

Let us know if you have one or have seen one. We want to check them out and see if they are causing lag or not.

Basic example of the mechanism:

Reports & Grievances / NOTICE: Board Guidelines (please read, very short)
« on: 21 September 2013, 09:07:15 PM »
Unlike the Ban Appeals board, this board has long gone without a guideline that works to prevent derailing important threads. As such, I've added one. Enjoy.
http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=312.0

Note: Please post in active Report/Grievance threads constructively in a worthwhile manner as long as the threads are still unresolved. Intervening in active unresolved reports/grievances with irrelevant posts that are not important to the thread may result in an immediate forum temporary ban or warning. Please, though, post useful information, observations, and interpretations if they add to the thread. While this board will not be as strict as the Ban Appeals board in enforcing these guidelines, please follow them to help staff and fellow players.

General Discussion / Tough Boats
« on: 26 August 2013, 06:50:16 PM »
Are you sick of boats in Minecraft breaking if you look at them wrong? Smashing into bits and pieces if you run into a lily pad or brush the bank of a river? Ever think that maybe a boat should be a little more sturdy than something made of balsa?

Then this plugin will make you very happy. I just added it.

PARLIAMENT VOTE #11
An Act to Regulate PVP Combat for Members of the VillageCraft Staff

Update: Vote Passed.

--
If this act passes:
1. Staff may not engage in PVP, unless:
a) They are assaulted and need to defend themselves, or;
b) They engage in PVP combat where all parties starting a fight consent (in in-game chat) to the Staff member taking part, or;
c) They are involved in an arena event or PVP event where PVP is obviously the activity.

2. Staff may not use their Staff privileges or powers to gain an unfair advantage in PVP.

3. Staff may not use their Staff privileges or powers to give another player an unfair advantage in PVP.
--

All Members of Parliament may vote.
For the act to pass, a majority of voting MPs must vote in favour.
The poll will run for approximately 4 days, unless there is a clear victor or an ongoing debate, in which case it may be extended or shortened.

If you think Staff PVP should be regulated, please vote in favour.
If you think Staff should be allowed to PVP just as any player would, please vote against.
Please note that Staff may not abuse their powers, regardless of this vote.

General Discussion / REPORT 1.6.2 PROBLEMS HERE
« on: 7 August 2013, 03:49:42 PM »
Hi all, please report problems you find with 1.6.2 plugins, etc right here for others to be aware of them.
I'll start:

1. MobCatcher does not seem to work very well with Ocelots, Wolves, or Horses. I advise against using it for those animals until a fix is found.
Update: apparently this is a known bug with the current Bukkit build, and it occurs when you switch which inventory slot the egg is sitting in.
Not sure, but worth a try.

VillageCraft is now running Minecraft 1.6.2 (via Spigot 1.6.2 R0.1) as of the 5th of August 2013.

Enjoy!

We used to have Mumble, and now without it we are considering getting TeamSpeak so that VillageCraftians can voice chat together on a VC-run voice chat server.

Please just take a second to consider whether you would use it, whether we should get it, and answer the poll.
Thank you!

General Discussion / NOTICE: Changes made to Donor Ranks! :)
« on: 17 July 2013, 12:17:45 AM »
We've made some changes to Donor Ranks.

Change 1:
Rather than "any" donation gaining someone a basic [D] rank, it now requires $1.00 CAD. This is because PayPal takes a portion of the donation and anything less begins to get a bit silly. Don't worry; anyone with an existing [D] who donated less than $1.00 gets to keep their rank, we will honour our old agreement forever.

Change 2:
The $20 Gold [VIP] rank has received a slight change in wording about additional warps to correspond with our current method of dealing with village warps, and make it more accurate. All existing warps this rank has available to them will remain, so don't worry if you currently use any of them. With the new wording, new warps can still (and likely will) be added as a donor perk as time goes on.

Change 3:
The $20 Gold [VIP] rank now has the ability to set 6 homes (up from 5)!
We do this to make the donation-to-home ratio make more sense as well as a thank you to all of our gold donors :). This change is effective immediately to all Gold Donors!

<3
[Website will be updated soon to reflect these changes]

And some new donor ranks for those who have accumulated a large sum of donations:
We have added three new ranks, and in the future they will likely gain more perks, but for now they get new tags and more homes.

$50 Teal [VIP] (&3):
+10 homes.
This rank must be claimed (not automatically added to donors of 50 dollars or more).

$75 Rainbow [VIP] (default purple &5):
Any colours that say [VIP], except for predominantly red.
+15 homes.
This rank must be claimed (not automatically added to donors of 75 dollars or more).

$100 Custom [VIP] (default black &0):
Any short prefix that does not conflict with another prefix, any colours except for predominantly red.
+20 homes
This rank must be claimed (not automatically added to donors of 100 dollars or more).

General Discussion / Did you donate? Need your perks/tag/money?
« on: 5 July 2013, 12:48:50 PM »
Dear people who donate without telling me their username,

There is a field on the donation form that asks you to add your username, but I'd say only 20% of people fill it in.
But it is usually impossible to know which donor email is associated with a Minecraft account if you don't fill it in.
If you don't fill it in, you can email me directly with the same email that donated, and tell me the Minecraft account username to associate with the donation
You can also contact me here on the forums.
Canadadan7[AT]hotmail[DOT]com (email is written like that to avoid spambots trawling for emails).

Thanks gentleladies and gentlemen, we appreciate the support!

Air's Edit:
Just click "add special instructions to the recipient" and add your MC name. It's easy.

General Discussion / Minecraft 1.6
« on: 1 July 2013, 12:26:06 PM »
This is a message our host sent us, and I hereby forward it to you.

Quote
Hi,

As many of you already know Minecraft 1.6 comes out Today (Monday July 1st). If your server is currently running CraftBukkit or Vanilla Minecraft you will be affected. If you choose to update your client to 1.6 you will not be able to play on your server until you update.

You are probably wondering when CraftBukkit will release an update for 1.6, and your guess is good as ours. Their release times have been varying wildly with the new updates recently, so it's hard to predict. We also don't want to promise anything at we have no way of knowing. You can however keep checking their website at http://www.bukkit.org/ to see if they have posted any updates regarding the release for 1.6.

In the mean time you have a few choices if you are running Bukkit.
1: You can hold off in upgrading your client so you can still play on your server
2: You can use a launcher such at this one here: http://digiex.net/minecraft/mcvtool/as it allows you to switch between different Minecraft versions. Meaning you can update to 1.6, but then be able to switch to 1.5.2 and play on your server.

So yeah, while Minecraft will update, non-vanilla servers such as VillageCraft simply cannot update yet. You need to remain with 1.5.2 or use a client that allows you to switch versions. You can also switch manually by following a little guide I wrote: http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=37

We can update once we can update. Annoyingly, that is the only answer we (and any other CraftBukkit server) has to give right now.

Cheese and green apples,
-Akomine

General Discussion / The website is back
« on: 17 June 2013, 05:25:51 PM »
Our host had problems with their webserver, and restoring it took longer than they expected. They have apologized for the outage, apologized for the inconvenience, and are giving us free webhosting next month as a result.

My apologies too for those of you who enjoy the site and/or use it to enhance your enjoyment of the server. As a result, for no good reason, I will be giving out one free enchanted diamond sword to the next three people who respond to this thread asking for one of them. You may choose 3 enchantments.

Stay classy, VillageCraft.

Off-Topic Discussion / *~* Forum Game - 5 Word Story *~*
« on: 5 May 2013, 02:04:05 PM »
Let's start a forum game, friends. Here's how this one works:

       *~* 5 Word Story *~*
  • Every poster adds 5 words to the story.
  • You must use the last letters of the previous poster's words to be the first letters in your words.
  • You can ignore the last letter rule for one of the words.
  • You must continue the story (unless it's a good time to end the story, in which case you can do that and/or start a new one.)

Example:
Post 1: Three great white sharks attacked
Post 2: eels that electrocuted some dogs
Etc.

Remember to check to see if someone is already replying: http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?action=who

Last letter: http://www.scrabblefinder.com/ends-with/a/

If you have a hard time with one of the words, remember you can ignore the last letter rule for ONE of the words.
Remember to try to set people up with good letters and good words when possible.
It doesn't have to make all that much sense, it just has to work and continue the story.
Let's try, shall we?

                                      RED ORCHESTRA 2
                                     ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
This is a fucking great game. It is free to play all weekend, and if you buy it this weekend, for some reason they are letting you have it for just 3 dollars.
This is one of those games where the guns pack a punch and getting a kill is an accomplishment every time.

It is a realistic World War II first-person shooter that takes place on the Eastern Front, between the German Axis and Russian/USSR Allied forces.
Realism includes things like getting shot in vital organs, and instead of instantly dying (like in most games), as your vision starts to fade you can still try to shoot your killer. You can lose limbs. You can attach bayonet knives to the ends of your guns. And you can fight for the glory of Mother Russia or the Third Reich!
If you're a fan of WWII history or historically-accurate games, you'll like this one even more. The team has done their research and if you watch some videos about this game, you'll see how much they've put into it. The little things count.

The original Red Orchestra was the first non-Valve game to EVER be released on Steam, so come support a very cool and small company... And play this game :).
http://store.steampowered.com/app/35450/
Note: If you really want the game but can't buy it for credit card reasons or something, let me know before the free weekend ends.
