General Discussion / Server was down
« on: 20 February 2012, 04:05:17 AM »
You probably noticed that VillageCraft was down for most of the afternoon yesterday.
Our host, Creeperhost, recieved a DDoS attack on one of its nodes (the one we are on) and shut down to solve the problem.
I'm not sure why the hackers did it, but it seems there were no rollbacks, and everything should be just fine.

To add to the complications it seems Minecraft.net was having its own connectivity problems, making it hard to sign in, and the minecraftforums were offline at times too. Since the server was down, so was this website, and we apologize.

If ever this website is down again, remember that we also have a Steam group page here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/village-craft

And the original Minecraftforums post is here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/955787-join-villagecraft-survival-server/

Sorry for the outage, it wasn't our fault, nor our host's fault, just some hacker(s) on a mission, which we have no details on.
See you in-game!

(NOTE: This was written for 1.2 but still applies, just use the correct versions that you need)

When 1.2 comes out, Bukkit won't yet be ready for 1.2, and thus neither will VillageCraft.
If you want to keep playing VC (and most other servers), don't upgrade right away.
You WON'T be able to join if you update before we update.

When it asks, choose "NOT NOW"

Just letting you know.

Edit (adding instructions):
-------

How to revert back to an old version of MC:

1. Find the folder called ".minecraft", which is easy to find if you open up MC, click "Texture Packs" and click "Open texture pack folder".

2. Close Minecraft.

3. You will be looking at the "texturepacks" folder, and you need to go up one level to the ".minecraft" folder.

4. In the ".minecraft" folder, click on the "bin" folder.

5. Here you will see all of your old minecraft version files. If you have 'show file name extensions' turned on on your Windows, all of the files will have '.jar' at the end. Locate the one called "Minecraft" or, if you have file name extensions on: "Minecraft.jar".

6. Now, you will back it up by renaming it: call it something useful like "Minecraft-1.2.2(backup).jar"

6b. (Optional) You may also backup the Minecraft jar file you are going back to, by copy+paste and renaming it to "Minecraft-1.1_COPY" or something.

7. Find the version you need to revert back to (at the time of this post, "Minecraft-1.1.jar") and rename it to just "Minecraft" or if you have file name extensions on: "Minecraft.jar".

8. Run Minecraft, and upon logging in, it will ask you to update. Choose "NOT NOW".

And thats it! Enjoy.

Parliament Votes
All votes that take place in the Parliament must have clear questions and answers, plus the ability to abstain.
All votes must initially be open for at least 5 days of voting. After 2 days, this length can be shortened or lengthened at the request of 2 or more MPs if the result is overwhelming, or if the debate is ongoing.
There are two types of Parliament Votes:

Official Parliament Votes:
Legislative actions that apply changes to VillageCraft. The entire Parliament votes, and the outcome is binding. Examples include adding or removing plugins, creating regulations, major changes to rules, creating new policies, or any other significant change that affects VillageCraft.

List of past Parliament Votes: http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=5212.0

Official Parliament Votes may be initiated through the Senate of VillageCraft, or by the VillageCraft Staff after consulting with the Parliament.
All Official Parliament Votes are advertised to make sure everyone has the chance to vote. The results are published and the legislation comes into effect as soon as possible.

Learn about the Senate of VillageCraft: http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=5224.0

Simple Parliament Votes:
All other types of votes that make changes that do not affect the entire community, or have no effect. These are easier to conduct, do not need to be aggressively advertised, and have a lower requirement to initiate. These require a public discussion, and then 3 MP nominations to have a vote. The vote request must be clear and then certified to be acceptable by the Community Minister or a Staff Member, who will post the vote.

With relation to the Senate of VillageCraft, Simple Parliament Votes can be used to:
- Fill vacant seats by sortition from the Current Sortition List at any time.
- Remove one or more Senators at any time.

Suggesting Changes and Plugins
You may want to suggest a change to the server, so it's best to do it well. Start a discussion. You should post in a way that clearly describes the change to the server so that we can all understand what you're proposing.

Remember, though proposing changes can be a good thing, just remember you are proposing changes that are likely to affect everyone on the server. If your proposal gets lots of interest/debate/ideas on it, the more likely it is to get recognized and come to fruition. Offer feature ideas with detail, and if it's a plugin, provide a link.

Suggesting Plugins:
Plugins are modification packages that add features to a server. Please find the plugin on Bukkit, Spigot, or another plugin site, and share it in your proposal.

Describe what you'd like to see on the server, and especially how it would alter play on the server. What are the benefits? Any concerns? Get a discussion going, get interest in the idea.

If there is enough interest, you can contact the Senators, who can push for a Parliament Vote on the idea.

Parliament Office Positions
The VC Parliament has had different office positions from time to time, and any MP is eligible to hold office in one. Below are the current office positions:

Community Minister of VillageCraft - CM
The CM runs community events, and can choose to be a Senator. The CM can also certify Simple Parliament Votes.
This is an elected position, and elections occur by request from MPs.
Full Community Minister info here: http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=4143.0

Senate of VillageCraft - Senators
The Senate discusses, debates, and votes on legislation to send to the Parliament for Official Parliament Votes, and can investigate Staff members of wrongdoings.
This is a sortition selected position, and MPs can place their name on the Sortition List to attempt to be randomly selected to join the Senate.

Good luck, and don't let them down!

Welcome to VillageCraft's Ban/Punishment Appeals.
Winning an appeal is the only way to lift a ban on VillageCraft. Do not privately ask Staff to unban you; they can't.

Here you can try to remove or lessen a punishment, or just ask a question so you better understand your situation. When you appeal, the way you explain your case is up to you, just remember we prefer honesty.

--

Instructions:
1. Login or Register to the forum (above)
2. Go to the Ban/Punishment Appeals forum board: http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?board=3.0
3. Click "NEW TOPIC" (top right)
4. Either ask a question about a punishment, or write an appeal.

--

Ban/Punishment Appeal Form:

State your full Minecraft username:
Name
State the punishment you recieved:
Banned/tempbanned/jailed/money taken/etc.
State what you were likely doing that got you banned/punished:
Griefed/PVP'd in a PVP-off zone/exploit/etc.
State what you would like to happen to your case and why (pardoned/forgiven/etc):
Explain your case

Any other useful information is welcomed too.

The appeal form is not mandatory, so long as you are able to include all the needed information.
If you need help with spelling, here is a dictionary: http://dictionary.reference.com/

--

Terms:
Pardoning means you didn't do what you're accused of. Pardons completely clear your name of the offense.
Forgiving is not a full pardon, and it means we are willing to reduce or remove the punishment for the offense you did commit.

Board Rule:
Unless you are appealing a punishment, please don't post in someone else's appeal unless you have evidence or information that would make your intervention worthwhile. We don't need comments or opinions, unless we ask for them. Evidence and information is okay. Intervening with irrelevant posts that are not important to the appeal may result in an immediate forum temporary ban. Please, though, post useful information, observations, and interpretations if they add to the thread.

--

Rights:
Basic rights of the person appealing:
1. You have the right to appeal a punishment levied against you, so long as you respect re-appeal limits.
2. You have the right to request information on your punishment, such as the Staff's "Staff Action Registry" entries relating to you, or any other basic information that allows you to understand your situation properly to write your appeal.
3. If you appeal in a reasonable time after your punishment, you have the right to demand evidence pertaining to your case.

Limits on re-appealing:
If your appeal is denied, staff may put a limit of up to 3 months before you can appeal again. If staff do not set a limit, you may appeal again after 2 weeks have passed. You can appeal sooner, and ignore the limit, if a staff member says it is okay to do so in your specific case. If you have never appealed, there is no limit on when you may make your first appeal.

A note on the VillageCraft Staff Action Registry, and appealing in general:
The VillageCraft Staff maintain a registry of all punishments and actions we have undertaken, including warnings, pardons, bans, and so on. It contains important information relating to each action, and we can and will use it when considering your appeal or future punishments. This means if you truly feel a punishment or warning was levied against you unfairly, you should appeal it to have it pardoned and removed from the registry, even if you did not receive a ban from it.

PUBLIC VERSION: VillageCraft Staff Action Registry: http://ow.ly/u7D14 (Last updated by request 14th April 2017)
This version is not automatically updated. Updated by request only. Any player may request an update at any time. Some info is not disclosed, and can be disclosed by request only.
To appeal an old punishment on the registry, simply include the report number (far left column) you are referring to.
