Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Fun things to do!
« on: 19 March 2022, 11:09:22 PM »
This year I visited Mexico and got to see everyone's favourite Airbongo. While there, I visited quite a few Mayan archaeological sites, climbed ancient step pyramids, learned a lot about the history of the region, and ate cheese.

In the spirit of this thread, I highly recommend visiting Yucatan, Mexico and seeing the ancient sites. I wrote an article to help guide you :)

Costa Rica! Go treetop ziplining, walk the hanging bridges in the Monteverde cloud forest preserve, play in the warm waves of some ridiculously nice beaches, and go on a night hike to spot some truly cool and unique wildlife.

Quick Guidelines for Meeting Tier Requirements:
For full guidelines please see the VillageCraft Wiki page: https://www.villagecraft-server.com/wiki/villages/tiers#guidelines-meeting-tier-requirements

- For Staff to consider a requirement to have been met, a structure should have a design with style and effort put into it.

- Special requirement structures should additionally have 3 distinct features that convince the Staff member it is indeed that structure, so that they can check it off the requirement list. If Staff feel your village has not met the requirements to advance a tier, they will tell you and may give you advice on how to succeed.

Quick Guidelines:
A - All Structures:
A design with style and effort put into it (this is at Staff discretion - we won't allow cobble/dirt cubes to pass as a structure).

B - Specially-Required Structures:
At least 3 features that convince the Staff member that it is indeed that structure.

- Example 1: A food production building could be a bakery, and the 3 features could be a big oven, a kitchen with work stations, and a reception or sitting area for visitors.
- Example 2: A civic building could be a post office, and the 3 features could be a reception desk, mail boxes, and a sorting room.
- Example 3: An attraction could be a fairground, and the 3 features could be a flower garden, a parkour course, and a stage.

Use your own creativity and style, and convince us that you've put some effort into your work so your village can advance in the tiers!

C - Embassies:
An embassy is considered complete when it has at least 4 of the following features:
- Flag of Village (Banner, decorated)
- Map of Village (On display)
- Armor Stand people (owners of Village, significant figure, or someone in the theme)
- Signs explaining the Village (The history, a description, an ad, or explain relation to Village the Embassy is in)
- Decorated reception desk (example: worker, book or computer, flower pot)
- Ambassador's office
- Residence or inn rooms

(Bypassing these feature requirements may be permitted when a significant unique alternative design is done instead, by Staff discretion.)

Embassies in both respective villages must be complete for the Village Tier requirements to be met. Embassy-to-embassy warp signs can then be added by Staff members by request. Villages may request warp signs be dismantled at any time.

Tirinuvik Public Village has an embassy zone, and will offer a free embassy to any Town (Tier 3) or higher that has built a completed embassy in Tirinuvik.

Reports & Grievances / Re: Crimes at Lilac Lake
« on: 2 February 2022, 09:19:54 PM »
Hello TinyTinaJoon,
Thank you for taking the time to file this grievance report with us, and for following up on it. We have looked at the case, your complaint, and deliberated quite a bit over what to do. We have reached our conclusion. VC has long held that players own their villages, and Staff should not breach that fundamental feature of the server unless specifically permitted by a village owner. Cyphur's enabling of TNT and use of TNT without permission of the village owner was a breach of that fundamental feature and an abuse of Staff-Only powers.

The underground build has been restored to Lilac Lake, and furthermore we formed a committee and have reached a decision regarding Cyphur's TNT usage without consent in the town.

The following actions shall be be taken as a conclusion to this grievance:
1) This incident be placed on Cyphur's record in the Staff Action Registry as "Abuse of Staff-Only Powers; using TNT in a TNT-off zone, editing a village as a non-member without permission".
2) Cyphur, or the VC staff as a whole, should formally apologize to the owners of the village, even if apologies have already occurred.
3) Publicly or in a Staff-Only chat, Cyphur should acknowledge the results of this committee, that he misused his Staff-Only powers as a non-member of the village, and that he will avoid engaging in this kind of conduct in the future.
4) Cyphur be temporarily banned from VillageCraft for 5 days.

Thank you again for bringing this up to us, Tina, and I hope you enjoy your time on VC from here on out.

Rule #5
Building

Allowed:
- Anyone can build anywhere in the Outlands, and in Villages that they own.
- Anyone can also build in Villages they are a member of, so long as it is okay with the Village owners.

as a reply to akos message, these were not village rules that were broken they were server rules

Hi Tina, I just want to clarify that building in a village that you are a member of is within the rules of the server. There are instances where building can be against the rules, and building can even be griefing, but in this instance we have members of a village building in that village. Furthermore there were no known village rules that prevented this action. Even if it was in secret, the implications of members building something without express and specific approval of a village owner being considered against server rules are vast. We would have to punish or even ban hundreds of players, possibly thousands over the years. It's an interpretation of the rules that barely holds any water. It would be impossible to enforce. I certainly disagree with the interpretation.

I'm sorry if you don't like the idea of the underground build, but I see no reason to think that it was malicious, and I can't find any way to consider it against server rules, especially with no village rules to back it up.

As far as anyone is concerned, they were members of a village, and built in it. You added them as members, and they built. Arguing that rules imply that the underground build was against server rules is overbroad.

Removing it might be another question, and it's my understanding it has been restored to Lilac Lake at this time.

-Using World Edit to remove the catacombs after they were kicked off from the village. At this point Cyphur and Naomi had no right to modify the village without Tina's consent.

Air, it's my understanding that Naomi was a member of the village when this occurred. I just wanted to correct that.

Lastly, we are deliberating about how to conclude this grievance, and will inform you of our decision as soon as we can.

Nice to know that you guys solely go on the rules and not on whats right and wrong. I remember with the report on crh yall said village rules arent official rules and arent mandatory to follow so why make em? like pick a side dude.

<3
Love, KB

Village Rules are not the Staff's responsibility to enforce, those are the responsibility of the owners of the village to enforce. Staff will only act in cases where server rules are in play, or in specific instances where only a Staff member can help, such as unlocking a chest.

Village rules aren't server rules, but it doesn't make them any more or less official or mandatory, it's just that enforcement it the owners' responsibility, not the staff's.

As for what's right or wrong, that's not always agreed upon, but it may inform how rule breaches are interpreted. With regards to the rules, this set of complaints are being investigated and there is no conclusion just yet.

Working on historic villages has sometimes happened, sometimes not. I'm not sure about specifically just landscaping work for certain tho. Some historic villages could probably use a tasteful cleanup. I think it would be case-by-case. Do you have any in mind?

Senate Guidelines Revision #1

Should we adopt Senate Guidelines Revision #1?

With the passing of this legislation, the following will occur:
The revisions to the Senate of VillageCraft Official Guidelines stated below will be adopted.

-------
FULL TEXT HERE: https://gitlab.com/luisc99/legislation-changes/-/commit/c98e45266bac820bba6106a0b795d30092fecda7
The new text in the above link is what will be adopted. The link includes the full text of the revisions, side-by-side with the old text for comparison.

CHANGE LIST:
-States that the Senate is a body of the Parliament (there has been some confusion over this)
-Clears up votes with regards to investigations of Staff (there was some confusion over this a few months ago)
-Clears up terms and adds some terms, such as "Selection Event" to make things easier to follow
-Clears up some ambiguity about resignations, and the removal of the CM (who can still be eligible for selection)
-Adds a section "C.5: Sortition" to explain sortition in one spot
-Adds language to officially adopt the publicly-auditable and viewable Sortition Method and randomized daily Selection Lists developed by Ako and Luis
-Adds language to make sure orders to fill seat vacancies occur the following day (UTC) so no strategy/"cheating"  with selecting new Senators can occur
-Closes the "Upcoming Sortition List" 24 hours before the new session to give buffer time for the new list to be updated for the new Senate to be selected
-States that orders to fill vacant seats may not occur within the last 72 hours of a Senate Session (to sync with the above 24 hour buffer, and also because it would be odd)
-Places a (soft) limit of a maximum of 3 Staff members on the Senate, to avoid Staff dominance. Technically adding a player to the Staff who is a Senator can exceed this limit, but this is the only way.
-Requires the CM to choose whether to accept a Senate seat 1-10 days PRIOR to the start of a Senate Session, now removing their ability to slightly delay a session by not deciding.
-Makes it clear that Senate Votes last 5 days or until all Senators have voted, at the Speaker's discretion (there was some confusion about this)
-Makes it clear that System Admins are counted as 1 of the 3 staff required for consent (there was a question recently whether it was 3+1 admin or whether the admin counted)
-------

This vote has been brought to Parliament by the passing of Senate Vote #6 - https://bit.ly/3w5HN8n
Discussion took place on Discord in #senate

This vote was initiated by senate nominations from Speaker Legend and Senator Allison
Staff approval from: Admin Ako, Admin Yvette, Admin Luis, and SM Octo

If "yes" is majority, The Senate Guidelines will be revised with the new text.
If "no" is majority, the revisions will not be added.

All Members of Parliament may vote.
For the act to pass, a majority of voting MPs must vote in favor.

If you are indifferent, please abstain.

Should the Updated CM Guidelines be Adopted?

Note: Senate vote on this bill can be found here: http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=5384.0

With the passing of this legislation, the following will occur:

The current CM guidelines will be replaced by updated CM Guidelines. Both the current and revised versions are found below in this post.

Current CM Guidelines

VillageCraft Community Minister Official Guidelines:
All nominations, signatures, and elections take place on the Parliament Board of the VC Forums, and all participants must be Members of Parliament.

A
Roles:
1. Event Organizer
The CM serves as a community event organizer on VC. The CM's goal shall be to create and run events to help bring the community together to have fun and make the server a better place to play. This could include building competitions, PVP matches, elytra races, and anything else to get players involved. The CM will run the events, but will work with the Staff to make sure the event is possible before organizing it.

2. Sit as a VC Senator
At the start of a Senate Session, the CM is offered the choice to become a Senator in the Senate. For full details, see Section D.

3. Certify Simple Parliament Votes
The CM can represent the players' interests by certifying requests for Simple Parliament Votes in the VillageCraft Parliament. For more information on types Parliament Votes, see the Parliament Guidelines.

B
Election Process:
CM Elections are triggered by player request. Elections can be requested at any time. Outgoing CMs serve until a new incoming CM starts their term. VC Staff run the elections, or may assign someone to do so.

1. Election Request
i. If a CM has been serving for less than 2 months, an election will be triggered when:
- 5 players who are MPs request a new election, and;
- 1 Staff member requests a new election.

ii. If a CM has been serving for 2 months or more, an election will be triggered when:
- 3 players who are MPs request a new election. This can be done anonymously (http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?board=33.0).

iii. Election requests during the first 2 months of a term expire once the first 2 months of the term is reached. Each further request expires after 1 month.

2. Candidate Nominations
i. CM candidates will be placed on the election ballot with:
- 3 nominations (including the candidate themselves), and;
- A declaration they want to run.

ii. The nomination process ends and proceeds to an election when there are at least 2 candidates and no more nominations are coming in.

3. Election
i. The CM election between all nominated candidates uses the Approval voting method, where voters approve all candidates they feel would be good in the role. If there is a winner, they are offered to become the new Community Minister.

ii. If there is a tie for winner, a First-Past-The-Post election ballot between the tied winners will determine the final winner, where voters make only 1 choice. Further ties will be resolved with a random number generator.

4. Term Begins
i. The new CM term begins within 15 days of the election result, on a day chosen by the election winner.

ii. The previous CM is removed as the new CM's term begins.

C
Events and CM Team:
The CM organizes and runs community events, and is given permissions to do so. The CM can appoint a CM Team to help.

1. Event Organization
i. The CM runs community events open to VC players. The CM determines prizes, refereeing, and judging of competitions. Some aspects may require Staff approval and assistance. The CM can post a Schedule and coordinate with Staff to advertise events.

ii. The CM can be given server permissions to make their job easier and more efficient. These shall be determined by the Staff.

2. Community Minister Team
i. The CM can appoint a team at their choosing. Up to 3 members of the team can receive extra server permissions to help the CM with their events, pending Staff approval.

ii. CM Team members are not offered compensation or a tag.

D
Community Minister Seat in the Senate of VillageCraft:
The CM can join any new Senate Session and become a Senator without needing to be selected through sortition. This allows the CM to represent VC members and participate in the democratic process easily if they choose to do so.

1. Community Minister Senate Seat
i. At the start of a Senate Session, before Sortition, the Community Minister chooses whether to sit as a Senator for that Session.

ii. The CM can indicate their choice up to 7 days before a new Senate is formed, and up to 24 hours after.

iii. If the CM does not choose, declines the seat, fails the Competency Test, resigns from the Senate, or ceases being CM, the choice is not offered again until the start of the next Senate Session.

iv. If the CM is a Senator and ceases to be the CM, that individual is removed from the Senate, creating a vacant seat.

E
Privileges, Compensation, and Emergency Removal:
Privileges:
1. The CM will have the ability to talk directly to Staff about potential community events and CM Parliament Vote Initiatives.
2. The Community Minister will be given server powers to run community events and CM Parliament Vote Initiatives.
3. The CM will be a local Forum Moderator for the Parliament Board.
4. The CM will have an in-game [CM] tag in front of their name.

Compensation:
5. The CM will be paid $250,000 VC Dollars every 2 months if their mandate was met.

Emergency Removal:
6. The CM can be removed at any time by Staff Vote if there is evidence that they have abused their position or privileges.

All nominations, signatures, and elections take place on the Parliament Board of the VC Forums, and all participants must be Members of Parliament.

« on: 30 November 2021, 11:58:57 PM »
Friends! It has come to my attention that there are a lot of ideas around the Village Tiers system, and I find that exciting. I'm glad there's so much enthusiasm and creativity for this and how to add to it.

So, I'm thinking this will be the first iteration of Village Tiers on VC, and with all of the ideas everyone has, it's quite possible this will be amended and improved upon in a future version that adds more to it, and tweaks aspects of it. For now, I hope we can all enjoy this version, and learn what we'd like to see changed and added.

Thanks you for your interest, ideas, and for voting!

- FREE
Grants:
- (No Region Protection)
- A claim on the land in the immediate vicinity

1: Hamlet
Requires:
- 5 structures
- Staff approval (Staff will create protected region)
- $5,000
Grants:
- Protected region around immediate vicinity (~50m)
- Basic Rules for Villages on VC enforcement
- 2 month owner inactivity leeway

2: Settlement
Requires:
- 10 structures
- 1 art installation (fountain/statue/art wall, etc)
- $25,000
Grants:
- Protected region beyond immediate vicinity
- Protected region expansions (with staff approval)
- 3 month owner inactivity leeway

3: Town
Requires:
- 15 structures
- 1 town hall (village rules can be posted here)
- 1 food production place (bakery, butcher, restaurant, etc)
- $50,000
Grants:
- Ability to set village rules for members to follow
- Protected region expansions more liberally permitted (with staff approval)
- 4 month owner inactivity leeway

4: Shire
Requires:
- 25 structures
- 1 gathering place (pub, church, market square, etc)
- 1 civic building (post office, court house, school, etc)
- 1 embassy
- $120,000
Grants:
- Ability to join unions

- 5 embassies
- $1,500,000
Grants:
- A billboard in a server-owned Public Village (such as Qualia, Tal Avar, Tirinuvik), including a picture and writing (pending Staff approval and placement)
- 7 month owner inactivity leeway

7: Country
Requires:
- 100 structures
- 1 health and safety structure (hospital, police station/jail, military base, etc)
- 3 unique non-housing structures (not houses/apartments/hotels)
- 7 embassies
- $3,000,000
Grants:
- Village Warp (v-warp) accessible to anyone, regardless of donor level
- 8 month owner inactivity leeway

ADDITIONAL INFO / TERMS:
a. Owner Inactivity Leeway:
Applies only to the owners of villages, and therefore ownership transfers. All other inactivity on the server uses the 2 month inactivity rule, including village membership, salvaging, and unlocking locks.

b. Homesteads/ Land Claims Within 200m of Another Village:
Builds within 200m of a village that the builder doesn't own cannot be protected without consent of the nearby village owner. Should that village owner choose to expand their village in the direction of the land claim, with staff approval, they may give 7 days warning for the land claimer to pack up and leave (signs posted, mail, public chat, etc), after which point the village owner may expand over and claim the builds and chests for themselves and their own village, with locks removed. Thus, it is suggested nobody build this close to an existing village that they don't own.

c. Advancing a Tier:
Tiers are advanced one at a time, and Staff have discretion on whether a village has met the requirements to advance a tier (or if they can be reasonably bypassed for significant unique builds).

d. Structure Count:
Specifically required structures are included in the total structures count. Staff have discretion if requirements have been met.

e. Embassies:
Embassies are considered complete when the Embassy on each side is built (their embassy in your town and your embassy in theirs).

f. Embassy Warps:
Once complete, embassies between towns get free warp signs that go from embassy-to-embassy.
(Staff Note: Naming convention example from Qualia to Tirinuvik: Warp e-QUAtoTIR. And from Tirinuvik to Qualia: Warp e-TIRtoQUA. Add a letter if needed.)

g. Tracking Tiers:
Custom region flags will be used so anyone can see which tier a village is at.

NOTES FOR WHEN THIS SYSTEM IS IMPLEMENTED:
- When the village tiers system begins, all existing villages will be given Hamlet status. All of their existing perks will be grandfathered in even if those perks now require a higher tier. Adding any new perks that require a higher tier will require the village to advance to the respective tier first.

- The "VillageCraft Rules" and "Basic Rules for Villages and Village Unions on VC" will be updated to include the new tiers system and account for the changes made here.

This vote will be open for 5 days, but may be closed earlier if all senators have voted.

Internal Senate Rule 3:
Once a Senate bill has a draft text, that bill must be posted to the public Senate discord channel and/or forum board, so it can be reviewed by the players of VillageCraft prior to being voted on.

Requested by several players, this plugin adds a missing feature to the server; the ability to ignore messages from a user on discord while playing in-game. Currently you can ignore another player's chat in-game, but not from the discord, so this fixes that. Currently, a person could potentially bypass your ability to ignore their messages by simply using the discord, so this solves that.

Additionally, this plugin also allows you to ignore any and all messages transmitting from discord to in-game. Though this particular function may not necessarily be used often, it's still technically there should anyone want to use it.

Cleaning up this gap in chat ignore functionality makes sense to me, especially since we often recommend ignoring a player when someone is finding them bothersome or discomforting, so I've voted yes.

If any of you guys ever find yourselves near Boston, Kane's donuts in Saugus are incredible

Those look fucked. I'm not even a huge donut fan and I need those lmao.

The top 3 are even ribbed for your pleasure, which looks great

I have another pretty controversial opinion, but I really like sour cream donuts. They are super underrated and nothing beats a fresh one from a local donut shop. A close second for me is a boston creme.

Canadians should be pretty familiar with Sour Cream Glaze donuts. They are easily the best donut flavour too. The name sounds a bit odd, but the flavour is perfect. Now I want one

Right??? People act like it's weird but they really are the best. I guess that's why some places call the "old fashioned donuts" lol

Old fashioned glazed and Sour cream glazed are different, at Tim Horton's at least. Sour cream glazed tastes better, but Tim Horton's barely tries anymore so I want to find a new place to eat the perfect donut.

That box of "trophies" is actually a box of army men. That isn't lesbian shit at all! This is all a sham!

In school I came in 6th for running, I was always a fast runner but never really kept up with it and competed more. Other than that I have shit all. I enjoy hockey, beach volleyball, frisbee, and inventing random weird games while hanging out with friends or camping.

...

We're gonna need to see the unfelted table.
