I frequently see sad souls in chat who just died and realized how much XP they lost lol. Bottled XP would, among other things, be a nice quality of life improvement for players like those.

1. Oak
2. Dark Oak
3. Spruce
4. Birch
5. Jungle
6. Acacia

You accidentally put a "3." in front of Spruce. Oops, we all make mistakes, it's okay. You can use the "Edit" feature on the forum to replace it with a "1." though, so it's easily corrected.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Official Minecraft Wood Ranking
« on: 9 February 2021, 07:06:40 PM »
Yesterday there was a heated debate about the best minecraft woods and I'm sad to report that most of the players are WRONG
Here is the official report, everyone must abide by it. Note: this isn't including the new nether wood.

1. Spruce (This one is not up for DEBATE)
2. Oak
3. Acacia
4. Birch
5. Jungle
6. Dark Oak

Thank you for your time, Dark Oak SUCKS

1. Spruce (This is irrefutable.)
2. Oak (Solid. Classic.)
3. Birch (The planks are really good for light accents with texture, while not being white)
4. Dark Oak (Great dark accents without being black)
5. Acacia (Ok, don't hate it, hard to use well)
6. Jungle (Weird tone, rarely use)

This is the correct list and is set in stone. It was pencil on stone, but it's on stone so nobody change it.

Naomi is no longer the CM and has been removed from the CM Senate Seat. Any sitting CM is only offered the special seat at the start of a new Senate Session.

Yvette has been confirmed to the Senate.

Ban/Punishment Appeals / Re: Mute Appeal
« on: 28 January 2021, 03:30:59 AM »
Hi, you've requested evidence in the form of logs, which will be supplied to you, as is your right. My head hurts rn so I'll post tmrw.

In my preliminary reading of the logs, I am having a hard time supporting your mute. It seems you dissented to a recent ban, explained why, and got punished for bringing it up.

I do feel a bit bad for Dallas trying to help someone thru the chat commotion, so we'll have to explain some strategies to aide people in those sorts of situations, without needing to mute unless needed, hopefully.

Edit: or you can basically just go look at the Discord #server-chat as a log.

Ban/Punishment Appeals / Re: Ban Appeal

You've requested evidence via logs, which is your right, so you will get them. However, it's late and my head hurts so I'll post them tomorrow if someone doesn't beat me to it.

I'll say this based on my reading of the logs:
I can't find evidence supporting a harassment case against you. I may need to double check the logs, but I can't find much to convince me. You certainly may be bugging Octo with saying "octo gay" a few times or whatever, but I'm having a really hard time agreeing with a permanent ban. The logs will help clear this up.

I wish this was sorted out privately.

Edit: or you can basically just go look at the Discord #server-chat as a log.

27Jan2021 - ARCHIVE - The Method below is now out of date. It is still visible for transparency. The new method is visible as the first post to this thread, or Here.

Quick Info:
MPs Self-Nominate their names to the Upcoming Sortition List for the Senate of VC, and names shall be added in the order of nominations. Any "Upcoming Sortition List" shall be closed at noon Toronto-Montreal-New York time on the first Wednesday of the respective month in which Senate Sessions end and begin, at which time it will become the "Current Sortition List". The names on the "Current Sortition List" shall no longer be edited and will be used to select Senators. During any selection event, the names of any removed Senators shall be excluded from the list.

The Senate uses Sortition to select Senators (other than the elected CM's seat), and the following method has been created to be transparent, fair, and auditable by anyone. As such, it actually doesn't require Staff to determine who is selected for a Senate seat, since anyone can replicate this method. Staff, however, will administer the Competency Test required to be confirmed to the Senate.

Full info on the Senate here: http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=5224.0

Senate Sortition - Method for Randomly Selecting Senators
Sortition of Senators shall occur using the following publicly-auditable method:

1. The MD5 Hash Generator from https://www.md5hashgenerator.com/ shall be used to generate a unique MD5 hash.
The following shall be the string:
a) The English Dictionary.com Word of the Day text from https://www.dictionary.com/e/word-of-the-day/ starting with the date, including the word, the pronunciation, the type of word, and ending with the given definition. Followed by;
b) An empty line. Followed by;
c) The text of the respective Sortition List starting with "Sortition List for the Nth Senate of VillageCraft:" and ending with the last name on the list, where "Nth" is the respective number and ordinal indicator (-st -nd -rd -th) of the Senate Session in question.

Example string:
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2020
immemorial
[ im-uh-mawr-ee-uhl, -mohr- ]
adjective

extending back beyond memory, record, or knowledge.

Sortition List for the 1st Senate of VillageCraft:
FirstNameOnList
Second
Third
Fourth
Fifth
Sixth
Seventh
Loggy321
LastNameOnList

Example generated MD5 hash: c8b9d46f3fd6ecb7425382d23d4bcc60

2. The List Randomizer from https://www.random.org/lists/?mode=advanced in advanced mode, set to "Use pregenerated randomization based on persistent identifier". The list shall include the names on the respective Sortition List, excluding the names of any removed Senators.
The persistent identifier shall be:
a) "VC-Senate-N-", Where N represents the number of which Senate Session this list is for. Followed by;
b) The MD5 hash generated in part 1.

Example persistent identifier: VC-Senate-1-c8b9d46f3fd6ecb7425382d23d4bcc60

Example outcome for Senator selection:
Second
LastNameOnList
FirstNameOnList
Loggy321
Sixth
Seventh
Third
Fourth
Fifth

3. Using the order of the generated list, selected potential Senators shall be contacted by the VC Staff to see if they want to accept the position and take the Competency Test. If they refuse/want to defer, do not respond in 5 days, or fail to pass the test twice within 5 days, the next available name on the list is selected (but their names can still be used in future selection events).

4. Potential Senators who are selected and pass the Competency Test within 2 attempts and 5 days are confirmed to the Senate of VillageCraft and become full Senators. At the start of a new Senate Session, once 5 Senators have been confirmed, proceedings may begin. Competency Tests can be published for public viewing by request of any MP once all Senators have been confirmed in that selection event.

General Discussion / Re: Thank you for the 9 months of CM!

Thank you Naomi, you are hugely appreciated, and you will be leaving big footwears to fill. I'm so glad for all the effort you've put into all of the events!

A little reminder that Naomi is still the CM until and potentially as far as 2 weeks after the conclusion of the CM election. There's still events planned and I hope as many as people as possible can attend and support our outgoing CM :)

General Discussion / Re: A Couple of Maybe Cool Ideas
« on: 17 January 2021, 01:39:33 AM »
Yeah it is great to have mods from strange fantasy lands like oz and nz. A little list of the weirdos from those places might help us.

Over the last several months there has been a lot of discussion on a new spawn location. Not everyone has agreed on everything, but a lot of people have agreed that Qualia has some problems with being the spawn in its present state.

I actually don't know where I stand really. I often tell people on this issue that I'm a bit too out of touch to be able to offer a great perspective.

For these reasons, I'd like to propose multiple spawns. When a player joins, there is a random chance to spawn in a few different places. Maybe Qualia, maybe a new place such as the one that has been prepared recently. This way, we can keep an eye on what newbs tend to respond better to, and it will help inform us moving forward.

Parliament vote 26 has amended the text of this plugin. http://www.villagecraft-server.com/forum/index.php?topic=5251.0

Monthly priests have been removed, so I've removed all mention of them. Now priests are the CM, participating Staff, and anyone who wants to marry a pair of people, at those people's request. That priesthood by request lasts 1 month. Enjoy!

December marks the anniversary of our server's life. It's 9 now. That's absolutely nuts. Thanks to everyone who makes it a worthwhile endeavour to this day. I did not expect or know if this would last this long, but I'm happy it has! You all rock, thank you.

Onwards to 10!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and cheers to the Winter Solstice! Thanks everyone!

Whoaaa, I actually tied for the popular vote win? Wtf, did not expect that whatsoever, thanks everyone! And well done fellow winner Ten, and damn nice job judge winner Nicegirl!

Well done everyone, I think there were some really damn cool builds in this competition, and several of them could have easily contended for the win. Overall just a lot of really impressive creativity, I love flying around and looking at the unique, cool, dynamic builds that people came up with. Thanks to everyone for participating!

Parliament | Suggestions / Re: Gender roles on discord
« on: 18 December 2020, 02:44:46 AM »
I like the idea of supporting our gay/lesbian/trans/queer/anything friends who often get bullshit insecure people punching down on them. I like the idea of making people feel more welcome. I like the idea of helping people determine who they're talking to in a simple way.

I also understand the worries about cancel culture / virtue signalling / narcissistic bullies co-opting otherwise positive ideas as a means of attacking people, being divisive, and spouting their own hate. I don't really see VC as the kind of place that will happen. If it does, we can all call it out.

Implementing this as Naomi has explained it seems totally harmless and helps anyone interested in doing so. So, I'm cool with it.

Parliament | Suggestions / Re: Gender roles on discord
« on: 17 December 2020, 04:02:08 PM »
Yeah roles are only visible if you click on their name in the list on the right, like if you look at mine right now I have CM, Village Weekly, Etc.

doing it as a role is how other discord servers have had it set up so it might make a familiar system to new players. I personally prefer it as a role since it's out of the way visually, but super easy to see if you want to know.

Ah ok, thanks for the clarification. This works then.

Parliament | Suggestions / Re: Gender roles on discord
« on: 17 December 2020, 01:38:59 PM »
So the pronoun roles would only be visible if you specifically looked at someone's roles to see what they go by? Is that right? Or is it always displayed somehow?

Air's solution also seems good. Glancing at the list of names, there's not that many that are too long and can't accommodate a few more characters.

I don't really care either way, just looking for the best solution.

154
Parliament | Suggestions / Re: Gender roles on discord
« on: 16 December 2020, 10:24:05 PM »
How would this work exactly? Would there be a list of pronouns to choose from? Would you just be able to write your own in? Do you need Staff to add ones that don't exist? etc
