You know this is why India is way behind from China in their economy? Their economy can't grow unless they have tons of police officers, which provide jobs and reduce the unemployment rate.

Wow. This is disgusting. I didn't even read the entire article.
Though rape jokes are just bad, regardless of the age, gender, ethnicity, religion, and other features of the victim.

At the same time women are treasured there too. I don't doubt that since this made it to the police the man responsible will get screwed by the courts. India is very strictly caste based too (castes would be like nobles, peasants, lords, merchants, etc), with many, many caste layers. I guess the ease one has in coming forward about rape correlates with place in that caste system. Arranged marriages aren't uncommon either.
While women have little freedom to be independent (again varies in place in caste), I think they get respected a lot more. It's a different culture.

From what I understand about India, women are trash, and most castes are trash.
In many cities, the houses of most of the inhabitants do not have bathrooms, and so the municipalities set up public washrooms. Almost all washrooms are gender-segregated, and most washrooms are for men, meaning women often have to walk further and often walk alone. Sewage is not treated and often runs on to the streets.
Population density is insane, the roads are the most dangerous in the world, traffic laws are ignored (including the one that requires you to drive on the left), payed-for assassinations are becoming more common.
Luckily for Indians, they are protesting more and more and recently got an anti-corruption body established. Weed is also legal, so at least they've got that.
Edit: I meant to mention that in India, women are constantly mistreated, whether it is acid on their faces for religious crimes, or rapes that the police tuck under the rug. And the trend, sadly, is increasing currently, not decreasing like in North America.
