Almost everybody on the planet is able to appreciate and sing in the pentatonic scale, that's the amazing thing about it. Only a tiny percentage of humans are tone-deaf, and can't.
This scale sounds good to everyone, and there's instruments that are setup to only play pentatonic notes, so you can be a complete newb and make it sound good. The Strumstick is one of them.

Reminds me how nearly every pop song was written in four chords only: I V vi IV (E, B, C#m and A in most keys, G, D, Em and C in others.)
