AFK entity radius, new ghost plugin added?
« on: 15 January 2026, 05:16:05 PM »
Hello, what is VC's afk entity radius?

I can see on the minimap that, the very moment I go AFK - entities at a distance start behaving erratically, not pathing correctly, etc.

I'm betting this is something new that Luis did to try to optimize things to reduce lag but the impact is a bit ... strong.

Always valued VC as being one of those few servers that didn't fuck with entities, would be a shame if that's out the window now

The entity radius doesn't change, however when AFK the number of chunks around you which are loaded are significantly reduced. This was brought in with 1.20 due to changes Mojang made with world loading to make it laggier. The intention is to prevent things like AFK farming or similar by keeping the number of chunks around non-active players small, and not wasting processing on further away chunks. Nothing was changed with entities (beyond Paper's default optimisations which are supposed to not alter perceived behaviour). I'd have to double check when I get home to be sure, but I suspect the effect you're seeing on the minimap is client-server desync caused by them being in unloaded chunks, and your game incorrectly predicting where entities will end up.
