Quick Guide: Write a VC Wiki page
# Quick Guide: Write a VC Wiki page
A wiki is a set of articles that anyone can write and edit. This 5-step guide should get you started with writing wiki pages in just moments. If you can master # section headers, you'll be writing in no time! Ask Ako or Luis for any help if needed.

## Quick Guide
#### New Page
1. Make sure you are logged into the VC Forums. Click **[Create a New VC Wiki Page](/wiki/edit.php)**
#### Category and Title
2. In the **"Category/Title"** field, **"Category" refers to the sorted category** you want the article to be placed into (like "Villages/"), and **"Title" refers to the URL (link) name of the page** you are writing (Like "Qualia"), and **so for example you would write "Villages/Qualia" here** (and the full URL would become "villagecraft-server.com/wiki/villages/qualia").
The category is technically optional, and excluding it will just create a page that isn't sorted into a category. If you include a category that doesn't yet exist, it will automatically be created when you publish the page, and will be found on the Wiki's home page. For most articles, leave the "Everyone" field untouched, which allows anyone to view the page by default.
#### Simple Page Organization with Section Headers
3. Now we're into the main body of the article. **The "#" symbol is used to create section headers** to easily organize the article. **The title of the page uses 1 "#" followed by a space and then the name**, for example: **"# Qualia"** as an article title. On a new line, you can write the information relevant to that section. After the title, **each further section heading has additional ##'s**, for example **"## History"** for a major section of the article, then perhaps **"### Old Market"** for a subsection of History.
The fewer #'s a section heading has denotes its prominence, while extra #'s denotes it is a subsection within a larger section. The maximum number (for the least prominent subsection heading) is 5 #####'s. Each has a different size. The steps in this guide are using 4 ####'s, for example, while the "Quick Guide" header above is using 2 ##'s. The # Title text will be the article name found on the Wiki's home page, rather than the URL name.
**Section Headings:**
- [[# Title]]
- [[## Major Section]]
- [[### Subsection]]
- [[#### Minor Subsection]]
- [[##### Lowest Subsection]]
#### Formatting: Font, Images, Links, and Other Elements
4. **Use the [Wiki Formatting Guidelines](/wiki/wiki/formatting) to add elements to your article.** You can add **bold, italic, and other font changes**, and to learn how to add simple elements like **line breaks, images, or links**, or complex elements like **Minecraft skins, charts, or tables.**
#### Publishing, Editing, and Edit History
5. **Use "Refresh Preview" frequently** to check how your page is looking. **In "Brief description of changes made" write a comment before publishing** to help make the Edit History easy to follow. **Use "Publish Page" once your article is ready** to go live. **Edit a page at any time by using "Edit this page"** in the bottom right to alter its contents, **or "View changes" to see the Edit History.** All history is logged and visible to anyone.
